DropShot, Southfields (5★)

Updated: Dec 2, 2023

An independent speciality coffee shop & eatery, in Southfields, South-West London. With seriously good coffee, an all-day brunch menu and make your on juice menu this is a firm favourite with Rapha's South West cycling groups.

DropShot is the perfect sunny spot to end a ride or read through some work emails. Just a stones throw away from the famous Wimbledon tennis club, with plenty of outside seating, window benches inside and a large backroom full of tables - there's plenty of space. Throw in power sockets, weekly guest coffees, at least 10 different cakes and a 'make your own juice' board and you'll be feeling at home in no time. All fantastic, but the thing that really caught my attention was how the team know nearly every customer by their first name.

Coffee

Lucky for me their in house coffee expert Daniele was working when I dropped by. He walked me through the house single origin (Origin) & guest (Copper) coffees, & introduced me to the team. All really interesting, delicious & again adds to a very high service score. Nothing but positive friendly vibes in here! Coffee aficionados out there will be pleased to see they also do cold brew, V60 & have coffee bags for sale so you can even take some home (ground specially for which ever method you need).

Cake

Banana bread, blueberry lemon cake, brownies, a gluten free selection to name but a few, and all baked fresh locally. There's also a great range of sausage rolls and stuffed pastries to get you going before a ride. What was my favourite? The Blueberry & Lemon cake, but it was the home baked granola that came home stuffed inside my jersey.

Bike Friendly?

Oh yes, you'll be sure of a warm welcome. DropShot have a pump tucked inside the front door and they'll helped me to grab a seat in eye-line of my bike. Whilst they don't have a dedicated bike rack, it doesn't stop local cycling clubs from stacking their bikes against the railings after an early morning session (especially Rapha SW Hills on a Thursday am! A really great group).

Service

Outstanding. Despite it being busy I didn't have to queue for more than a minute, the team were not just friendly but very chatty, and my coffee banana bread combo arrived super fast with a smile. people watching from the window seat there most of the people seem to be regulars, and everyone certainly seems to be be on a first name basis. What more could you want, really great.

Location

Strong start or end for a ride. It's on a north/south through road that's not too busy, with deep pavements and parking spaces giving some space to the road. West facing the large glass front soaks up the rays, and it's just a few mins from Wimbeldon Park, and 10 mins from Richmond.

Summary

Another strong contender in the south-West London coffee list. DropShot get top scores across the board, but it's the experience that really makes it stand out. Happy friendly staff, fast service, space, sunshine and great coffee. I'll be going back tomorrow.

Quick note on the review process

We either find the cafe's on our cycling adventures, or we're directed to them by friends. From there we rock up on the bike, order coffee, soak up the vibe and speak with the staff. Once we've been there 4/5 times we'll write the review.
